David Roberto R. Soares da Silva
David Roberto R. Soares da Silva was born in São Paulo. He graduated in law in 1993 from the Mackenzie University’s School of Law (São Paulo), participating in the LLM course in American and international taxation at Chicago-Kent College of Law (Illinois Institute of Technology). He is a member of the São Paulo and Minas Gerais Sections of the Brazilian Bar Association and the International Bar Association (London).
He has worked in the areas of national and international tax consultancy, litigation, and tax planning since 1993, serving companies and individuals from different parts of the world, such as the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He is a legal advisor, tax consultant, and member of the board of investment funds and foreign companies with interests in Brazil. He worked in large law firms in São Paulo and for the Latin America and Tax departments of the American firm Baker & McKenzie (Chicago, USA).
With more than 25 years of experience, David Silva has advised numerous investors and companies to establish their operations in Brazil or do business with local partners in various business areas such as oil and gas, mining, finance, electronics, reforestation, real estate, renewable energy, architecture, information technology, automotive, engineering, sports equipment, telecom, pulp and paper, fashion and luxury, civil construction, among others. For individuals, he advises families on estate and estate planning in Brazil and abroad. Since 1995, he has actively participated in panels, lectures, and seminars in Brazil, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
He is a founding partner of Battella, Lasmar & Silva Advogados, a law firm in São Paulo and Minas Gerais specializing in mergers and acquisitions, international operations, estate, and succession planning, and tax matters. In recent years, Mr. Silva and his firm have been awarded by international publications such as International Tax Law Firm of the Year (2015), Best in Estate and Succession Planning (2016), Private Client Tax Advisor of the Year (2017), Best Succession & Estate Planning (2018), and Leading Tax and Inheritance Planning Lawyer of the Year for Brazil (2019).
With over 1,600 articles and news published on taxation, David Roberto R. Soares da Silva has been the correspondent for Brazil for the international publications World Tax Daily and Tax Notes International since 1999. He has also published articles in other international publications, such as Practical Latin American Tax Strategies, Latin American Business & Law Review, Global eCommerce Law and Business Report, International Internet Law Review, Tax Planning International Review, The Exempt Organization Tax Review, and Seu Patrimônio.
He published the first edition of the Brazil Tax Guide for Foreigners in 2011 and three others in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2021, reaching more than 47 countries. He also coauthored Planejamento Patrimonial: Família, Sucessão e Impostos, of 2018, and Tributação da Economia Digital no Brasil, of 2020, both written in Portuguese and published by Editora B18.
Fluent in English and with skills in French and Spanish, David Silva lives in São Paulo.
Edmo Colnaghi Neves
Edmo Colnaghi Neves was born in São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated in 1987 from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo’s Law School (PUC-SP), Brazil, where he also obtained his Master (1994) and Ph.D. (2003) degrees in Government Law. He also attended post-graduate studies at the Michigan State University College of Law, USA (1998), and IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland (2010).
Mr. Neves practices corporate governance, development, and implementation of compliance programs, legal management, and tax planning. For 17 years, he acted as Legal and Compliance Manager for multinational organizations such as General Electric, Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), Pfizer, and Claro Telecom. He is the chairman of the Brazilian Institute of Business Ethics and Law (Instituto Brasileiro de Direito e Ética Empresarial, or IBDEE), a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to promote, encourage and boost business ethics in Brazil.
In his more than two decades of experience, Mr. Neves designed, implemented, and developed Compliance Programs in organizations of various sizes and businesses, such as pharmaceutical, heavy industry, telecom, energy, advertising, and public services. He also provided legal support and advice on compliance matters, including those related to codes of conduct, compliance policies, internal investigations, among others.
He has been an active participant in panels, lectures, and seminars on compliance matters in Brazil and abroad since 2013, and a trainer, course coordinator and visiting professor on compliance and legal management at various business schools in Brazil.
Authoring dozens of articles on compliance and management of legal departments, Mr. Neves is also the author of Compliance Empresarial, o Tom da Liderança, of 2018, and Doing Compliance in Brazil, of 2020, published by Editora B18.

Roberto Prado de Vasconcellos is a lawyer graduated from the Law School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with Master’s degrees in North American Taxation from the New York University School of Law, (United States), and in Taxation and International Trade, London School of Economics, England.
He works with direct tax and international tax consultancy, as well as estate and succession planning in Brazil and abroad, with experience in American and international taxation in New York, Washington, and London.
He is the author of articles on Brazilian and American taxation in international publications, such as Tax Notes International, Latin American Law, and Business Report, Global Transfer Pricing Solutions, Mondaq, and Seu Patrimônio.
